Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) is a newly formed armed unit,
comprising operatives from armed forces and police dept , by passing the
constitution and the parliament, devised by the BNP-Jamat govt to ostensibly
eliminate ordinary criminals but, in reality, as the political experts think, to
keep the political opponents at bay in the forthcoming election. The real
intention of RAB became obvious when RAB turned up in the Communist Party office
last week (24 November 04) with an implicit threat, as the experts see it, to
suppress the current all party political movement against communialism. The
other interesting observation on RAB operations is that although they have
killed nearly hundred criminals in three months they are not targeting the the
godfathers (such as Salauddin Quader Chowdury, Aziz Bhai, Poltu etc) and
Islamist extremists who are killing the liberal minded Bangalees around the
country such as JMJB operatives, and Shibir
extortionists. The strategies currently implemented by RAB are: 1. To gain quick
popularity by killing ordinary criminals (no political, or those who fail to see
the big picture and stop paying the Hawabhaban or who are on the way to
BNP-Jamat dons, and extortionists 2.to gain popularity by killing the
disobedient extortionists once belonged to BNP or cutting loose of BNP 3. once
the popularity is gained target the important opposition activists and leaders
and eliminate them staging a crime scene and fabriacating stores of terrorist
connections. (to be continued)
